GARZA
Velia Carrola Garza, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with our Lord on August 14, 2013 at the age of 81, after courageously battling cancer. She was born on January 17, 1932 in San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by her father Porfirio Carrola and her beloved mother Petra Garza Davila, and two of her beloved sons, Roland Garza (5 years old) and Jesse Garza (infant). She lived her life full of faith, love, kindness, strength and compassion. She opened her heart to everyone she met and touched so many lives. Velia led a Christian life serving as a church lector, a Eucharistic minister, a Guadalupana, and always helping those in need. She worked endless hours raising money for the poor and the sick and was involved with many Catholic organizations. Memories of her extraordinary power of love will live on forever and she will be greatly missed. Velia retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 33 years of civil service. During her career she worked in several directorates. Working on Foreign military sales in National Logistics, supervisor for Data Automation and as an Editor on technical manuals for many aircraft workloads. During her career she received many awards. Due to her commitment, generosity and compassion she was involved with a multitude of charities at Kelly Air Force Base. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Emilio Benitez Garza who was the love her life; three daughters, Velinda Garza Gauna (Martin Gauna), Emily Garza, Darlene Garza Lopez (Rick Lopez); one son, Emilio J Garza; 10 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; and one sister, Dora Ybarra; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Monday, August 19, at 5:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, August 20, at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church - Helotes. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
