Vera Morey Searcy McGonigle died October 25, 2010. Born in San Antonio, Texas on July 6, 1916, Vera was the daughter of Ethel Morey and Seth Shepard Searcy. She attended public schools in San Antonio, Sweet Briar College in Virginia, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Columbia University in New York. She served three and a half years as a Communications Officer in the United States Navy during World War II. She married Joseph Robert McGonigle in 1944. Having lived in Abilene and Houston, the family moved to Corpus Christi in 1961. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where she served on the Vestry, and was an active worker at Good Shepherd's Corner as well as a Good Shepherd Egg Lady. She served on the boards of the Corpus Christi Library Board, Corpus Christi Area Heritage Society Board, Pan American Round Table, Athenian Club, Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century, and Daughters of the Republic. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, a member of the Ocean Drive Garden Club and the Junior League of Corpus Christi. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Seth Shepard Searcy, Jr. and Tyson Morey Searcy, and her sister Katherine Searcy Zimmerman. She is survived by her children, Morey McGonigle Weldon (William) of Fredericksburg, Robert F. McGonigle of San Antonio, and Michael L. McGonigle (Linda) of South Padre Island, her grandsons William E. Weldon (Hannah) and Seth F. Weldon of Austin, and several nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi, Texas on Thursday, November 18 at 2PM, with interment in the Morey family plot in Belton, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
