Vernon Marett Jr. Obituary
Vernon Stanley Marett, Jr., 87, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013, in Kerrville. He was born in San Antonio on September 23, 1925 to parents, V. S. Marett, Sr. and Sibyl Jones Marett. Having grown up in Gonzales, Texas and graduating from Gonzales High School, he later graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and during the Korean War on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet in Hawaii. Following his active duty in the military, Stanley was in the banking profession for thirty-two years, eight years as a State Bank Examiner, eleven years as Executive Vice-President of Main Bank, San Antonio, and thirteen years as President of Union Bank, San Antonio. He retired in 1985 at which time he and his wife moved to Kerr County to enter the ranching business. During his life he served as a deacon in the Baptist Church, trustee on the board of the Baptist Memorial Hospital System, trustee of San Marcos Academy, member of the board of directors of the Texas Bankers Association, treasurer of the Texas Bankers Association, a Texas representative of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors in Washington, D.C. and a member of other civic organizations. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Kerrville; his son, V. Stanley Marett, III, daughter-in-law, Susan, granddaughters Jennifer Burggraaf and husband, Dave; Ashley Flood and husband, Rob; and grandson Taylor Marett. Also surviving are his daughter, Karen Marett Dimler; husband, Bob; grandsons Travis, Cory and his wife, Andrea; and his sister, Alice Marie Curtis and husband, Paul of Ft. Worth.

9:00 A.M.

Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. Dr. Jack Byrom will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Bible Society, Ave Maria Hospice of Fredericksburg, TX, or the Texas A&M Foundation-Student Impact-Memorial Gift.
