Sgt. Victor Anthony Almaraz, a 30 year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department, went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 21, 2009, at the age of 52. He was born September 17, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas, and recently became a resident of Mico, Texas where he built his dream home. Victor is preceded in death by his grandmother Mary Romero and grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Frank Gonzales. Beginning at a very young age, Anthony excelled in various sports. His enthusiasm in this area was evident throughout his life. As a little leaguer, playing CYO, his abilities always had him placed on All-Star teams. Victor enjoyed playing on the Highlands High School baseball team and continued playing baseball while attending San Antonio College. His love for the game did not keep him from coaching Little League and Pony League Baseball teams and attending as many major league games with his father, brothers, cousins, and son. Victor also boxed for the Southside Boys Club. Sensing his call to protect and serve, he served his country in the U.S. Army and then his community by becoming one of "San Antonio's Finest." An outdoorsman by nature, Victor loved hunting and fishing. His favorite salt-water fishing spots at the Coast were the flats and land cuts. He loved to hunt South Texas deer and hogs. His most recent moment of victory was during a fishing trip in Hawaii when he took on and caught an 11'9''500 lb. Blue Marlin. Victor lived his life with honor and selflessness, and will always be remembered for being a loving and giving father, brother, son, friend, and brother in blue. He will greatly be missed by all who loved and knew him. Victor is lovingly survived by his children, Vanessa Ann Rodriguez and husband, J.R.; Victoria Anne and Anthony Almaraz II; grandson, Joseph R. Rodriguez; mother, Patricia Lozano; father, Victor R. Almaraz and wife, Alice; girlfriend Patti Horn; siblings, Vince Gerard, Michael Rene, Danette, Andrea, Beverly, Erica, Isaac Almaraz and wife, Christina, and Cynthia A.
