Victor Pohler Obituary
Victor J. Pohler, age 92, of San Antonio passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with his family at his side. Born January 3, 1921 near the town of Moulton in Lavaca County, Texas, he was the youngest of the four children of Richard and Elizabeth (Mang) Pohler. Victor served in the Army in WWII as a teletype operator and received the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained stepping on a landmine in March 1945 while serving with the 3rd Army in Europe. After the war, Victor used the G.I. Bill to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from St. Mary's University. Before college, he had a one-room schoolhouse education, but he loved to read and taught himself high-school level math. After college graduation, Victor went on to a long career as a Chemist. He began it briefly at Southwest Research Center and then worked many years at Kelly Air Force Base until his retirement in 1978. In 1961, Victor married Maria del Carmen Rabago of Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, Mexico. She preceded in him in death, along with his parents, brothers : Arthur and Harvey Pohler, and sister, Elizabeth Skarke. Victor is survived by son, Victor E. Pohler, daughter, Carmen Gonzalez, son-in-law, Dan Gonzalez, and grandsons: Daniel and Gabriel Gonzalez. Visitation will begin Thursday at 6:00 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church.
