Mauriece Vance Johnston was born March 16, 1917 at Bryan, Brazos County, Texas. She went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 15, 2014. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, the Reverend Doctor Earl W. Johnston. She is survived by her son, James R. Johnston; granddaughters, Shaynan L. Johnston, Jayme M. Murray; great grandsons, Colby Smith, David, Mark and Gabriel Murray; nephews, John Vance Johnston (Carmen), Bruce Langford (Jennifer); and a niece, Jane Johnston Adams (Les). Mrs. Johnston was a graduate of Waco High School, of Baylor University and held the Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree from the University of Mary Harden Baylor. Mrs. Johnston served two four-year terms as President of Texas Woman's Missionary Union, as first Vice-President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; as the first woman to serve as a Director of The Baptist Standard and the first woman to service on the Executive Committee of the BGCT. She served on the Baylor University Sesquicentennial Council of One Hundred Fifty. She was the recipient from her alma mater, Baylor University: the W.R. Mauriece Vance Johnston leaves with you one of many favorite Scripture Passages, Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough.
