Billie Hood Obituary
Billie Ray Hood, beloved mom, Mamaw, aunt, wife and friend, passed away on February 19, 2014 surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Emma Grace Ray, sisters Nannie Lou Francis Winnett, Mary Genuine and Ann Caples, brothers Edward Earl Ray, John Thomas Ray, and Bobby Joe Ray, son in law Bill Butler, step-son Robin Hood and brother-in-law Stanley Butler. She is survived by husband Jack Hood, daughter Stephanie Butler and her children, Laura and Wes, daughter Debra Catalani and her children, Jennifer, Derrick, Dean and Ryan, son Pete Catalani, and step-daughter Marye Hawkins and her children Skylar and Amber, great-grandchildren Grace, Carly, Mikenzie, Tristan, Haidyn, Chanler, Dylan, Lucy, Lawren , Sayge, Beckett and Brodie sister Betty Butler and many nieces and nephews. Billie was born in Birdville June 19, 1923 and moved to San Antonio in 1941. She was a WAC in WWII, worked at the Northwest YMCA, Longfellow Junior High School and the administration office for SAISD. She was married to Steve Catalani for 29 yrs and later married Jack Hood. She enjoyed many athletic activities, cards, dominoes and all kinds of music. She was an amazing cook, made unrivaled spaghetti and meatballs and a mean margarita. But Billie's true passion was her family. She passed on her joy of life, her compassion for others and that Ray blood. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter with all of us. She was our safe place and she will be forever missed. The family would like to say a special thank you to her caregivers from Vitas hospice and Morningside Manor, especially Ike.
A Celebration of her life will be held Friday February 28, 2014 at 12pm at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, TX 78218. To leave condolences, please log on to www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com
