DIAZ
Olga G. Diaz entered heaven on Friday, March 7, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in Dilley, Texas on February 27, 1932, to Adan and Feliz (Eguia) Garcia. Growing up in Dilley as a young girl, Olga picked cotton, worked at her father's grocery store and would sell "tripas" door to door. She graduated from Dilley High School in 1950. Olga went on to graduate from Texas A&I with a degree in education. She married Jose A. Diaz on September 3, 1953. In 1958 with $20.00 in their pockets and two small children, they moved to Monterrey N.L. Mexico so Joe could attend medical school. With her teaching degree Olga was able to secure a job at the prestigious American School and put Joe through school. She was an optimist and believed with hard work and determination you could do anything if you put your mind to it. "Que no se te cierre el mundo" Olga would often say. When they returned from Monterrey she helped Joe start his medical practice on the south side of San Antonio. Olga went back to teaching and taught in the Harlandale School District. She was one of the first bilingual teachers. Olga retired from teaching to help her daughter and son in their practices. She instilled the importance of education to her children and was so proud of them, often telling strangers what her children did for a living. She was also very proud of her grandchildren. Olga loved to travel, especially to the countries of Italy and the Greek Islands and took over 30 cruises. She loved life and was always left glowing after visits with her grandchildren. Olga belonged to the Pan American League, the International Good Neighbor Council and her Birthday Club of over 35 years. Most of all, our Mom loved unconditionally. We will miss you so much and will love you forever. You are with our Dad and the Lord, at peace and no longer in pain. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Jose A. Diaz; brothers, Eloy, Adan and Errigardo (Pacho) Garcia; sisters, Esperanza Fonseca and Marianella Martinez. Olga is survived by her sons, Dr. Joseph Diaz, Louie Diaz and wife, Lori; daughters, Dr. Deborah Diaz Murphy and husband, Dexter and M. Dinorah (DeeDee) Diaz J.D.; her grandchildren, Patrick (Gina), Alexander, Eliana, Ashley (Mark), Joseph, Aimee, Alisha, John, Ciara, Kyle and Cody; great-grandchildren, Paige, Elijah, Asher and Paxon; sisters, Esther Mohan, Agnes Perez and Pat Rodriquez; special friend, Fred Schodts and numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff at Methodist Hospital for their support and kindness these last few weeks. The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 12, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
