Our beloved Penelope Priakos, age 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of March 14, 2014. She was born in Sydney Australia on October 26, 1922 to Dionysios and Angelica Raftopoulos. With her wonderful Greek upbringing and strong work ethic, Penelope came to the United States as a young girl eventually working for the British Embassy in Washington, DC. She was known and best loved for her forty year career in real estate and was a top producer for many years. She adored her Keller Williams real estate family and in 2011, Penelope was honored by receiving the KW Lifetime Achievement Award.
She was actively involved in the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia, Little Rock, Denver and San Antonio, TX and was a member of the National Philoptochos Society. Penelope was known for her couture dress and lampshade designs, her honed cooking skills and making famous Greek pastries, which so many enjoyed. For many years, Penelope was prominently and proudly involved with the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony, The Denver Philharmonic, The Little Rock Symphony, The San Antonio Symphony and the Theatre for Performing Arts. She loved attending all cultural events and especially loved opera and ballet. She loved to laugh, enjoyed good times with her family and friends and most certainly loved chocolate and a scoop or two of ice cream.any flavor!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maestro Vasilios Priakos. She is survived by her brother Tony Rafty, OAM (The Order of Australia Medal) now 98, of Sydney Australia, her loving son Aristides Priakos of San Antonio, Texas, nephew Tommy Priakos of Pine Bluff AR, niece Katie Priakos of Houston, TX and her family Thomas, Ted and Nia, step son Bill Priakos and his family of Tampa, FL and Dallas, Texas; Bill Priakos Jr., Jason and Christie Priakos and Christian Priakos. Other family members include her granddaughter Nicole in Tampa, FL, nieces and nephews; Denis Rafty, Andrew Rafty, Stan Rafty, Juanita Martin, Juliet Pascoe and all their family members throughout Australia and very close life-long family friends Ms. Dale Martin, Mr. Fraser Stitt and her dear, dear friend Mr. Craig Owen of Keller Williams, who she thought of as another son. Services will be held on Thursday March 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218 followed by fellowship in celebration of her incredible life. A very special thanks to the entire staff of Well-med for their fantastic care and to Dr. Gordy Hall, Penelope's physician of so many years. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: Holy Archangels Monastery or to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in San Antonio. "Rest in Peace with God, my dear mother. You are my hero and you helped me to understand life and how best to respect and serve others. I love you with all my heart and will miss you dearly!"
