Helen Sylvia Prime Turner was born in Boston, Massachusetts, January 20, 1939 and she passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by loving family members early morning March 20, 2014. She died as she lived quietly with grace and dignity. Her death is the result of complications with COPD. She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. Prime, Her first husband Fred A. Turner, infant daughter Jill Turner and her second husband, Mr. G.J. Valdes. Helen moved as a young teenage girl to Texas from Boston attending and graduating from Jefferson High in 1956. It was during these early years that she made friends with her husband Fred Turner, his brother Tom E. Turner, Jr., Billie Lee Fritter, (future brother and sister in law) Theadel Temple and Carl Voelkel among so many good friends. After high school, Helen attended UT in Austin. Fred and Helen were married and started their family shortly after graduating. She stayed busy as a stay at home mother and wife and was involved in volunteering with Junior Forum and all of the many worthy charities involved. Helen's hobbies included playing tennis first at Oak Hills then later at Sonterra Country Club and her passion was playing bridge with so many wonderful friends. Helen loved watching college and professional football and basketball her favorite teams being UT, Dallas and the Spurs. She enjoyed attending events at the Majestic and of course spending time with family and friends, not to mention her beloved Scottie dog Nellie. Helen's greatest love was her family. She is survived by her four children, Rick (Debbi) Turner, Richard (Holly) Turner, Milissa (Michael) Goodgion and Melanie (Norman) Reitmeyer. She is survived by her 13 grandchildren Shane (Vanessa) Petty, Josh (Danielle) Petty, Anthony (Kira) Turner, Sam Turner, Joseph Turner, Hillary Goodgion, Ben Goodgion, Jack Goodgion, Madison Goodgion, Jill (Shane) Simpson, Justin Reitmeyer, Norman Reitmeyer, Jr., and Rex Reitmeyer. She is also survived by her 9 Great-Grandchildren, Aedan Petty, Zach Petty, Kyra Petty, Hyatt Petty, Holden Turner, Hailey Cann, Mary Simpson, Max Simpson and Charlie Simpson.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the care she received from her wonderful nurses and doctors and the family asks that in lieu of flowers you donate to a . Visitation will be held at Mission Park North between the hours of 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2014. The funeral is to take place at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 24, 2014 at the same location with the burial services following at Mission Burial Park South, 1700 S.E. Military.
