WELLS
Marianna Louise Wells, age 83, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at San Antonio Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on October 17, 1930 to William John and Emma Sophia Willer in Tama, Iowa. Marianna attended rural schools near Tama and Grinnell, Iowa and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1948. During her youth she was a 4-H club member and participated in plays and musical activities in school. Following high school, Marianna entered Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City, Iowa and graduated in 1951 with certification as a registered nurse. On June 14, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, by then 2nd Lt. Patrick G. Wells (Pat), beginning a life as an Air Force wife and mother of five children. Their moves included Colorado, Washington D.C., Okinawa, Georgia (2), California, New York, New Mexico, Texas (2), Virginia and Hawaii. Marianna participated in Air Force wives club activities, garden club and craft clubs, her hobby was stitchery. She supported her husband's hobby of barbershop singing and enjoyed attending their International Conventions throughout the United States and Canada. Following Pat's retirement, they remained in San Antonio and moved to Air Force Village II in 1998. Marianna was a member of the hand bell chorus and the Village Serenaders and was an active member of the Catholic community. For several years, she enjoyed reading to students at St. Louis Catholic School in Castroville, Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Mark Willer. Marianna is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Col. Patrick G. Wells USAF (Ret); their five children and their families, Bonita Kay Moore, San Antonio, Texas, Diana L. Diehl (John) Mesa, Arizona, Steven P. Wells (Anna and daughter, Denise), San Antonio, Texas, Carol A. McCulloch (Joe), Crawford, Texas, and Robert A. Wells (Rachel), Laredo, Texas; three grandsons, Scott A. Moore (Gina), Omaha, Nebraska, Carol McCulloch's son, Michael E. Elliott (Star), Odessa, Texas and Robert's son, Dylon P. Wells, Laredo, Texas; great-grandchildren, Onnika and Talia Moore and Ethan and Tristan Elliott; one brother, Edgar V. Willer and wife, Doris of Knoxville, Iowa and Donna, Texas; one niece; three nephews and their families. Also, about 20 cats and three dogs. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
