Ruth Hoss Obituary
Ruth Blanchard Dukes died on 30 March 2014 after a full life of 95 years. Ruth was born on February 25, 1919 to Thomas Arthur Dukes and Elizabeth Mae Pouncey in Waco, Texas. Ruth comes from a family with a long history of serving in the military. She lived throughout the United States both with her parents as well as with her husband, Colonel Robert John Hoss. Ruth and Robert were married on June 30, 1941 and had a long lasting marriage of 56 years. Ruth had a lifelong interest in the sciences, archeology, and art. She was an amazingly talented artist with skill in working with many media including pottery, wood, stone, oils, water-color, and pencils. Her preferred art was pottery where she displayed and exhibited much of her work locally in San Antonio, TX. She is survived by her two children, Robert John Hoss Jr. and Mary Afiouni, 3 grand-daughters, and 2 great grand-daughters, all with whom she was able to spend her last fourteen years and to whom she taught lessons of nature, family, and art throughout their lives. She was heavily devoted to family and loved by all who met her. Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 PM on 21 April 2014, at Mission Parks North Funeral Chapel, 3401 Cherry Ridge drive, San Antonio, TX 78201 (tel: 210-349-1414). There will be a service in the chapel at 9 AM on 22 April followed by interment at 10:30 AM at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery (take Loop 410 East past the airport then south on Harry Wurzbach Rd. entrance is on left near Rittiman Rd.).
