Gloria Alley Obituary
Gloria Inez Alley has passed away after a brief stay in hospice care, and in the care of her loving family members. With a grandfather who had been sheriff of Bandera County, one might expect that Gloria might have developed interests in ranching, riding, etc. Instead, owing to her parents' interests in art and education, by the time she had finished her first year at Trinity University, she had also finished 15 years of ballet training most of them with Ruth Matlock, grande dame of ballet masters in San Antonio for many years. During her 39 years of marriage to D.D. Alley, she raised two sons, Paul (who pre-deceased her) and David Wayne. Both of them became pillars of their respective business communities, but, like their mother, were, and continue to be, ardent supporters and participants in the art world as well. Later in life, she was able to travel extensively in the Caribbean, South America, and Europe. A collector of antiques, she generously shared her treasures with sons, nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends. She devoted time and energy to church work, where she was until last month, a member of the senior group of Alamo Heights Methodist Church, and to the civic club the Optimises, where she had, at an earlier date served as president. She will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a private service on Monday, April 7, 2014, with the entombment to follow at Sunset Mausoleum 5000. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com. The family would like to express their "Special Thanks" to the caring staff of Odyssey Hospice.
