Joseph Karim Mery went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2014, one month shy of his 89th birthday. Born May 8, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas, he grew up in McAllen, Texas before marrying and returning to San Antonio to raise his family. Joe was a compassionate, loving and generous man with a warm and engaging smile which he was quick to use in greeting his many customers at Karam's Mexican Restaurant, an establishment he successfully managed for over 40 years. Joe is preceded in death by his dear son Richard Mery. He is survived by Maria Mery, his loving wife of 68 years, his devoted sister Malake Mery, his 10 children, Ron Mery and wife Shelia, Renee Rutledge and husband Tony, David Mery, Janice Gildersleeve and husband John, Geri Reid and husband John, Eric Mery, Diane Palasota and husband Joe, Jackie Hill-Hull, Meladdie Magaro and husband Steve, and Dwayne Mery as well as 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who all lovingly called him "Jido". Services will begin with visitation on Saturday, April 12 from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, followed by the Rosary, Mass and a Mercy Meal, all at St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 6070 Babcock Road. Inurnment will occur on Monday, April 14, in Holy Cross Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. George Maronite Church for Mass intentions.
