Jean Carolyn McAfee Nickolas, age 91, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on April 16, 2014. Jean was born on May 27, 1922 in Buffalo, New York to LeRoy and Viola Caroline McAfee. She attended high school in Buffalo, New York and received her Bachelor of Education degree from Chicago Teachers College in Chicago, Illinois. She later taught home economics in Villa Park, Illinois. She was married in 1942 to H.O. "Bob" Wood and resided in Villa Park, Illinois until 1963 when the family moved to San Angelo, Texas. After his death she married George Charles Nickolas, fondly known as "Uncle George". They resided in Dallas until his death when she moved to San Antonio, Texas. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Viola McAfee her son, Gary Lee Wood, her brother, Donald Allen McAfee and her beloved "Dusty". She is survived by her son, Dr. Dale Allen Wood and his wife Mertie. Her grandchildren, Andrea Wood Potter and her husband Michael, Eric Allen Wood and his wife Casey, Todd Jeremy Wood and his wife Lisa, Joy Wood Tosto and her husband Nic, Lee Allen Wood and his wife Carla. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Abbey, Hannah and Brooke Potter, Luke Wood, Colin and Madelynn Wood, Dominic, Rory, Brie, Olivia and Tye Tosto, and Addison Wood. Jean expressed her creativity through her poetry, paintings and design. She was a lifelong lover of the fine arts and ballet and in Dallas did continuing education in the arts and theater. Her fondest memories were of fishing trips with her family to Boyd's/Mason Lake Resort in Wisconsin. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church throughout her life. The love of her God and family exceeded all. Her family would like to express their appreciation to her physicians, Sister Care at the Village of The Incarnate Word, and Hospice of Christus VNA and special gratitude to Irene and Mary.
