Louise Carnes Obituary
Louise Leftwich Carnes, 84, passed away into heaven on April 9, 2014 after a courageous battle of a debilitating stroke of over a decade ago. One of four girls, Louise was born in Magazine, AR, to Julian and Zena Leftwich on February 26, 1930. Most of her life was spent in Lubbock, TX. Louise graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. While in Lubbock, Louise volunteered with the Junior League, Methodist Hospital and the Texas Tech Museum. After moving to San Antonio in 1990, Louise could often be found as a docent at the McNay Art Museum. She was a member of Alamo Heights Methodist Church. An avid traveler, Louise also loved to entertain her family and guests frequently with her social graces and charm in any and every venue. Louise is survived by her loving husband, Jim Carnes; daughter, Julia Lawson and son Howard and wife Nancy; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her parents and one daughter, Linda Burnette, preceded her in death. A very special thank you from Louise's family goes to her faithful and loving caretakers over these many years; Michelle, Diane, Hope, Margarita, Claudia and Susana.
Respecting her wishes, a private dedication at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church was held where Louise's remains will lay in rest beside her daughter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the McNay Art Museum, 6000 N. New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78209 or to .
