Betty Jean Thrailkill went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 13, 1933 in Houston, Texas to William Marshall and Mattie (Matson) Wolford. Betty was raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas where she attended North Little Rock High School in 1952. Betty attended Texas Women's University from 1952-1953 and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1956 where she was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Sorority. She lived in numerous cities across the United States where she taught a wide variety of subjects in private and public schools at Dumphies, Virginia, St. James School, Montgomery, Alabama and North Little Rock, Arkansas. Betty moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1967 where she taught at Kruger and Jackson Middle Schools. In 1971, Betty became a counselor after receiving her M.Ed in Guidance & Counseling from Our Lady of the Lake University and was a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) where she counseled at Nimitz Middle School for over 20 years and culminated her 35 year educator career with Northeast ISD at Garner Middle School retiring in 2002. Over the course of her career, she received numerous awards such as Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Outstanding Young Women of America and PTA Lifetime Membership. Betty was very active throughout her life in the communities where she lived serving as a Sunday School/Vacation Bible School teacher, Children's Choir Director, North Little Rock Pageant Director and Chaperone to Miss Arkansas Pageant, Judge of the San Antonio Junior Miss Pageant and San Antonio Miss Fiesta Pageant. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)-Alamo Chapter, The Woman's Club of San Antonio, Travis Park United Methodist Church and San Antonio Musical Club. Betty is survived by her daughter, Pamela Jean Thrailkill Patton; her grandson, Blake Edward and wife, Hilary Hibbetts Patton. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Marshall and Mattie (Matson) Wolford. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
