SWANSON
0. C. (Charlie) Swanson, age 94, went home to his heavenly Father on May 9, 2014. He was born October 1, 1919 in Groveton, Texas. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm outside Lawton, Oklahoma. After joining the US Army in 1940, he was transferred to Ft. Sam Houston and trained as a medic. Eventually, he was promoted to Sgt.-in-charge of Induction at Dodd Field. He met his future wife, Janice (Hocut) on a telephone party line and eventually, they eloped. After the war, he worked for Knowlton's Creamery as sales manager for the ice cream division for over 30 years; and then joined Tom Cristal Food Brokerage as sales manager, retiring in 1989. Charlie was very active in the community, coaching youth baseball for many years, and serving in the Optimist Club. He was awarded "Optimist of the Year". His parents, Walter & Delphi Swanson, have preceded him in death as well as his wife of 57 years, Janice. Four of his siblings and one grandchild have also gone before him in death. "PawPaw" is survived by sons, Nick (Sheila), Larry (Donna) and his daughter, Diana; grandsons, Daryl, Jeff, Bryan, Murff and one granddaughter, Cindy. Also, 4 great grandchildren and devoted friend Marge Miller. The family would especially like to thank dear neighbors, Lois and Frank Anderson, the Schievelbeins, caregiver and friend Lupita Tagle .as well as the staff at Morningside Manor Assisted Living/Nursing Care.

SERVICES

Chapel services will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Col. Chaplain Gary Higgs USAF Ret. to officiate. You may sign the on-line guest book at www.missionparks.com.
