Joyce Elaine Gillett went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 8, 2014 at the age of 80. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was a native of San Antonio, and was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Iola Stolle of San Antonio, and her Sister Darlene Strieber of Helotes, Tx. She is survived by the love of her life, and devoted husband, of 62 years, Patrick D. Gillett, son and daughter in law, Major General (Ret.) P. David Gillett, Jr. and Stacia Switzer Gillett of Edmond, Oklahoma, daughter and son-in-law, Patti Gillett Smith and T. Robert Smith, III of San Antonio; and daughter Allison Gillett of San Antonio. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Art Smith of Austin; brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Shirley Stolle of Buda, and her brother-in-law, John Strieber of Boerne, & numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Marcus and Abby Gillett, Meghan Zigmond, Rebecca Long, and Ryan and Emily Watson.
Joyce was an abiding Christian who ignited the light of Christ's love in her family. She was a devoted Lutheran, and attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a former member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where she was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the children's ministry. Joyce was an avid gardener, who shared her love of plants, flowers and birds with all those around her. She also loved the Texas Coast, and salt water fishing. She passed on a "multigenerational" love of nature, and a "yearn to learn" to her children and grandchildren, and it will not be forgotten. The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice for their superior care and compassion.
