Husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, José M. Aguilar "Papa Joe", died peacefully at home under hospice care, June 6, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eloisa M. Aguilar (Mascorro). Together they had 12 children, Cynthia Quintanilla (Gene), Anna Follis, Lucia Hall (William), Francisco "Frank", Aguilar, Rita Jordan (David), Cristina Baker (Dave), Antonieta "Toni" Hassed (Dave), Miguel "Mike" Agu ilar (Rose), Gustavo "Gus" Aguilar (Janna), Jorge Aguilar (Sara), and Gabriela "Gaby" King (Michael). Their oldest son, José Gerardo, preceded him in death in 1987. Included in the family are 40 grandchildren and 31 great-grandch ildren. A WWII veteran who served in the European theater during the Normandy Invasion, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe, Mr. Aguilar fittingly died on the 70th anniversary of D-Day. He was proud to have served his country and honored to have helped, along with so many others, to liberate a continent from the horror of Nazi aggression. After the war, Mr. Aguilar returned home and entered the United States Federal Civil Service retiring in 1987. He continued to work part-time well into his mid-eighties. Services are scheduled at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio, TX 78228. Wednesday, June 11, 2014: 6:00PM - Visitation; 6:30 PM Rosary; 7:00 PM- Funeral Mass. Thursday June 12, 2014: 10:30 AM - Procession from Oak Hills Funeral Home, 8332 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, 78229, to graveside service, Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. 78209 at 11:00 AM.
