P. Kenneth "Paw Paw" Wagner of San Antonio, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Ken was the epitome of what God wants every man to be: patient, loving, kind, truthful, and dignified. He was one of the most loving and thoughtful people in the whole world. He was truly a gracious and giving man to all of his family and friends. Ken set the example of what a good husband, father, grandfather, and brother should be. His amazing heart and boundless strength was evident in his legacy to the family he was devoted to. Paw Paw will have a very special place in our hearts forever. Ken was born in San Antonio, Texas to Paul Marcelas Wagner and Ora Mae Cook Wagner on June 28, 1932. Ken is survived by his incredibly loving wife, Gloria. Ken and Gloria were happily married and devoted to each other for over 36 years. They shared family, travel, friendships and hunting while working side by side each and every day. He is also survived by his three sons, Mike Wagner (Chris) of Fort Worth, Bodie Wagner of Bandera, Paul Wagner (Shannon) of Fort Worth; three daughters, Diane Hutchinson of Dripping Springs, Laurie Rush (Kebirn) of Johnson City, Cathy Schindler (Cary) of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Spencer, Ali, Matt and Mason Wagner, Sarah Jo and Sam Wagner, Perrin and Koren Turk, Marley Wagner, Aubree (Joel) McDonald, Grant (Bethany) Hutchinson, Alyssa, Christopher and Andrew Rush, Garrett and Gavin Schindler; great grandchildren, Adelynn McDonald and Rex and Hallee Trent. Ken graduated from Burbank High School in 1949, and was President of the Class. He was All City in Basketball and All State in Football. He served in the National Guard while attending Del Mar College. After graduating from Sul Ross University in 1954, he coached at Marfa and Ingleside before starting an insurance career with John Hancock. Ken retired from John Hancock in 1989 and started the Ken Wagner Insurance Agency. Ken was an avid hunter and particularly proud to be an "Encinal Hunter". He took great pride in sharing his passion of hunting and golf with his many friends and family. He was a life time member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition serving as a member of the Auction Committee. Ken was Chairman of the Burbank Class of 1949's reunions for the 30th, 35th, 50th and 55th. He was also President of the Burbank Ex-students Association from 1987 to 1995 and Chairman of the Celebration of Burbank's Golden Jubilee in 1988. He was the organizer of Burbank Bulldog Golf Tournaments for 5 years - 1989 to 1994 benefiting scholarships for Burbank seniors. The family would like to thank the amazing nurses at Methodist Hospital Neurological Intensive Care unit and the Vitas Hospice Care unit for their compassion and comfort. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring North.
