Emma Lee Mitchell was born in Sweet Home, Texas to the union of Georgia Goodall Mitchell and Vasey Coke Mitchell, Sr.
On August 24, 1936 she married the love of her life, Moses Gardley and to this union eight children were born. Emma and "Mose" remained loving and faithful companions for more than 55 years until he was called from labor to reward on December 12, 1991.
Emma was also preceded in death by her parents, five of her siblings, four of her beloved children: Lucy (January 1999), Ronald (November 2007), Moses, Jr. (September 2008), Dorothy (November 2008) and grandson, Moses III (August 2006).
Loved ones that she leaves to cherish her memory include her surviving children: Thelma (Donald) Hyatt of San Antonio; Carl (Maureen) Gardley of Federal Way, Washington; daughter Cheryl and son Marlon of San Antonio. She is also survived by three sisters: Maria Craft of San Antonio; Bobbie (Evans) Jones of Houston and Shirley Mitchell of Dallas as well as two brothers: Clifton Mitchell of Dallas & Marvin (Joyce) Mitchell of Canton, Texas. Her legacy includes a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
