Alpha "Mae" Daugherty, age 87 went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 27, 2014. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on September 1, 1926 to Claude and Anna Belle (McKee) Yoder. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and 2 brothers. Mae is survived by her husband of 68 years, George; her son, Delton Daugherty and his wife, Lea of Fort Davis, TX; her daughter, Barbara Keelan and her husband, Jim; her son, Walton Daugherty and his wife, Patty all of San Antonio; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She loved cooking, sewing and painting ceramics. Mae was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Alamo Chapter No. 5. She was enthusiastic and dedicated to serving Veterans, volunteering over 10,000 hours at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital and the Kerrville Veterans Hospital. She served as the DAVA Texas State Commander from 1982-1983 and was the National DAVA Volunteer of the Year in 1999. Her family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given by the staffs of Patriot Heights Senior Living, Optum Hospice and Palliative Care and the Third Floor East Wing Nursing Staff at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Service will be on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org or DAV P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
