Merle H. Boeck, age 96, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. Merle was born in Denison, Iowa to Henry T. and Malinda Kohls Boeck on March 19, 1918. He graduated from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, with business and music degrees. Merle worked for A.C. Nelson in Chicago until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1941. He spent WWII at Randolph Air Force Base and Waco Army Air Force Base instructing young cadets to fly. Merle married Virginia Anderson of San Antonio on June 13, 1942. He had a three year tour of duty at different bases in Japan and also served in the Korean War flying C46 Cargo planes. He left the Air Force in 1952 to start Featherland Eggs Farms, one of the largest and most modern in the area at that time. Merle retired in 1982 and enjoyed years of golf, tennis, bridge and gin rummy. He was an avid golfer with a low handicap, at one time holding the course record at Canyon Creek Country Club. He was a member of Oak Hills Country Club since 1963, where he developed many friendships. He leaves behind his wife of 72 years; daughters, Beverly Chaplain, Angie Lemmons, Gina Stillwell and Debbie Boeck; son, Conrad Boeck.; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
