David Keith Deer, known by friends and family as Uncle, was born in Tynan, Texas to Hilda and J.P Deer on September 20, 1922 and joined his beloved wife, Joyce, in her heavenly home on July 15, 2014. Keith grew up in Beeville, Texas and attended Schreiner College and Texas A&I University. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he learned to fly. Returning to civilian life, he and his wife, Mary, had two children, Cindy and Joe. Keith flew a private plane and worked as a wrangler for rancher, Rocky Reagan where he earned the nickname Sky King. In 1962, he married Joyce Wehmeyer. They remained happily devoted to each until her death in 2009. Keith had many titles in life but was proudest to be called Dad and Uncle. Survivors include his daughter, Cindy (Robert) Schultz, son, Joe (Monica) Deer, nephew, John Deer (Brenda). Grandchildren Ron (Nicole) Schultz, Amy (Jeff) Dekoski, and Justin (Courtney) Deer and their spouses along with four Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in law Kathryn Sisler and Ella May Calloway (Connie), nieces Kathy Hudson, Pam Marks, Beverly Neal, Elaine West (David), Pat Wehmeyer, Rita Albrecht (Kyle), Laurie Powell (Len), Karen Fey, and Jennifer LaCourse (Jimmy); Nephews Jimmy Deer (Rachel) and Jason Webster; and well over 20 grand-nieces and nephews who he loved a great deal. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Helotes, TX.
