Edyth Celia Riggs, 95, of Bigfoot, Texas, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014.
Edyth was born in San Antonio, Texas, January 7, 1919. She is preceded in death by her father, Arthur George Strickland, her mother, Anastasia (Stella) Strickland, her step-mother, Delma Strickland, her husband, James Wallace Riggs, her brother, William A. Strickland, her sister-in-law, Auda Lee Strickland, her daughter-in-law Frances L. Riggs, and her granddaughter, Jamie N. Riggs.
Edyth graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Texas. Helping in the war effort during World War II, she worked as a shipping clerk at the ship yards in Houston, Texas. After the war she returned to San Antonio, Texas. She worked as a switch-board operator for the Robert E. Lee Hotel and as an inventory supply clerk for Scobey Moving and Storage. In 1954, Edyth went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Antonio, Texas and retired in 1985 after 31 years of service. She provided help to many people when they were in need. Edyth is survived by her daughter, Patricia D. O'Dell (husband-James), her son, Michael R. Riggs (Wife-Sue), and niece Billie L. Engbrock (husband-Larry), and Five Grandchildren, eleven Great Grandchildren, and seven Great Great-Grandchildren. Edyth will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Service
Visitation will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South from 5PM to 9PM. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South at 11AM, followed by interment in Mission Burial Park South.
