Consuelo Hernandez Obituary
Consuelo Aguirre Hernandez, faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, loving wife of Jorge Brito Hernandez for 55 years and dedicated mother went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2014. Consuelo was born in Casa Piedra, Texas in Presidio County, to Eliza Aguirre on March 2,1926. She grew up as a cowgirl on a ranch, with her mother, her grandparents, Ramon and Juanita Aguirre, and many loving aunts and uncles. In the 1930's the family moved a short distance to Marfa, Texas where she attended elementary school. During her teen years and early 20's she worked in Marfa and Pecos, Texas - holding as many as five jobs at once to make ends meet. One job she always remembered fondly was caring for Ricky Baker, son of Smitty and Nancy Rawls Baker, owners of Baker Jewelers in Marfa. She married Jorge Brito Hernandez on April 20, 1951. The couple lived for 3 years in Peyote, Texas before moving to San Antonio's Southside in 1954. She was a tireless daughter, wife and mom, always encouraging the best in her family and never judging when they faltered. To help support the family, she took a job as a school crossing guard; sold Stanley, Tupperware and Avon products; and later worked as a nurse aide. A devote Catholic, she was a member of the St. James the Apostle Parish and the Guadalupanas until the family moved to Holy Rosary Parish in 1973. She lived a simple life, accepting her vocation as a wife and mother as a gift from God. She looked for the good in everyone she met and never held a grudge. Her love was a blessing for all who knew her. A giving and happy person to the end, she was well liked by the staff and residents of Golden Estates Rehabilitation Center - where she lived her last 7 years. Her husband, Jorge, who died July 17, 2006, preceded her in death by 8 years, to the day. She is survived by her children, George Brito Hernandez, Jr. J.D., (Adel), Ricardo Aguirre Hernandez MD (Laura Vaccaro), Peter J. Hernandez (Caroline), Eliza Aguirre Hernandez, Ph.D., and Mary Frances Herrera Bleile (Dennis); her God children, Dario Herrera and Luis Herrera; thirteen grandchildren, Antonio J. Hernandez, MD (Sarah), Andres T. Hernandez, Eva Maria Hernandez, Sergio F. Hernandez, Jorge Luis F. Hernandez, Elisa C. Hernandez, Marcela F. Hernandez, Bonnie Marie Bleile, Thomas Hernandez, Matthew J. Bleile, Aaron D. Bleile, Jacob Hernandez, and Zachary Hernandez; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin R. Hernandez and Eliana J. Hernandez. We will all miss you very much, mom. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at The Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 N.
