Austin Ricketson Obituary
Austin Coll (Rick) Ricketson died on July 31, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born in Bedford, MA and reared in Boston, MA, where he graduated from Tufts University. He entered the U. S. Army Air Corps. in early 1942 and completed bombardier and navigation training. He served as a navigator on a B-24 bomber in the 15th Air Force in Italy and in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. He completed 44 missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, as well as the Air Medal with three clusters. He participated in seven combat campaigns. He later was a Special Agent for the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations in England, Germany and Thailand, as well as in the United States in various locations. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. Next, he was Regional Personnel Director for the Texas Department of Human Services, from which position he retired. He also served as a greeter at Cornerstone Church, San Antonio TX, for a number of years. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Juanita (Nita) McPhail. He is survived by his wife, Betty Herring, and children, daughter, Suzanne Smith, of San Antonio, TX, and son, Mark Ricketson, and wife, Donna, of Bryan, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren, Corey Ricketson, and wife, Traci, of Lexington, TX, as well as Diane and Jaclyn Ricketson of Bryan, TX. He is additionally survived by great-grandchildren, Kylee Ricketson, Camryn Ricketson and Gage Ricketson of Lexington, TX.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Cornerstone Church, 18755 Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio TX 78258.
