Geraldine Splinter Obituary

Geraldine "Jerry" S. Splinter was born on December 19, 1922 on a farm at Rural Route, Marion, Texas to Joseph and Cordelia Stapper. She passed away peacefully on August 18, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Jerry went to a one-room school in Guadalupe County, near Marion, Texas for the first seven years and graduated in 1941 from Schertz-Cibolo High School. She attended the Alamo City Business School, then worked at Finesilver Manufacturing where she did payroll work and became paymaster until Nancy, and then Robert were born. Jerry returned to work when Howard opened a floor covering business, until they retired in 1989. Jerry met Howard in October of 1946 and were married on February 21, 1948. They were married for almost 60 years when Howard passed away in 2007. In 1958 Jerry and Howard joined St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and she taught Vacation Bible School, children's Sunday School, was a member of the Wesley Sunday School class and United Methodist Women. Jerry dearly loved St. Andrew's. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, and her sister Evangeline "Vangie" McShan. She leaves behind her daughter, Nancy Boyd, son Robert Splinter (wife Debbie), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Madaline Barrow and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Caring Companions of San Antonio, Cheryl's An Angel's Place and New Century Hospice in Austin for the wonderful care they provided to Jerry. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home (Austin Hwy.), with funeral services to be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Services will conclude at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Andrew's UMC, 722 Robinhood Place, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
