Arthur R. Barrera, age 83, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014. He proudly served his country as an Army Ranger in the 82nd Air Borne Squadron and was a veteran of the Korean War. For 62 years, he was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #14 and of the North American Hunting Club for 20+ years. Arthur was a dedicated employee with Guido Brothers Construction Company for 53 years. Since 1963 was a very proud parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Throughout his life he enjoyed his gift of carpentry but especially his passion for hunting. As an avid marksman he was most proud of being awarded the Texas Parks and Wildlife Big Game Award in 2004-2005. Arthur is preceded in death by his parents: Meliton and Leonor Barrera; his wife, Gloria M. Barrera; brothers: Rodolfo Barrera and Martin Orta. He is survived by his daughter, Leticia Y. Tovar; beloved granddaughter, Alexandra R. Tovar; wife, MaryA Martinez Barrera; his siblings: Anita Terrazas, Aurora B. Suarez, Estella Riojas, Eva B. Mendoza, Milton Barrera, Andres Orta and Rey Orta. Special thanks go to all of his physicians and staff at Health Texas Medical Group of San Antonio, VITAS Hospice Care and especially his loving caretaker, MaryElida Trevino at Silent Oaks Assisted Living. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, September 4th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
