George Eicke Obituary

Col. George Douglas Eicke US Army (Ret.), 64, an Army officer who retired as a colonel in 1992 after a 27 year career, died May 10 at home. Col. Eicke was born June 20, 1943 in Bronson, Texas to the late William Bradford Eicke & Lura (Strickland) Eicke. He moved to Beaumont when he was seven. Growing up he enjoyed scouting and was a Eagle Scout as well as a guide at the Philmont Scout Ranch. He graduated from Beaumont High in 1961 and graduated from Lamar University in 1965 with a degree in English. He later received an MBA from the University of Alabama. He served in Vietnam with the Fifth Infantry Division and was stationed in Korea, the Middle East, Germany and various stateside locations throughout his career. Col. Eicke's decoration includes the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. After retirement he moved to San Antonio and worked as an investment advisor for a number of years. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Annette; daughter Leigh Eicke and husband Paul Murphy; son Jason Eicke; grandson George Murphy; brothers and sisters, Louise Childs, William "Bud" Eicke, Cecil Eicke, Emily McClinton, Paul Eicke; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at St. Mark Episcopal Church, 315 Pecan Street, San Antonio, Texas 78205 with the internment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to MMRF- Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or email donation to multiplemyeloma.org. Sunset Funeral Home.
