Vincent Santos Obituary
Vincent "Chente" Santos passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, just a few days shy of his 85th birthday. Vince was born the third of seven children, and was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Blanche and his brothers Tony, Abel and Albert. Vince, or "Smiley", as he was often called, was a proud ex-marine from the 1st Marine Division, K 3-5 in WWII. Vince was a strong athlete, playing slow pitch ball until his mid 50's, when he then turned to golf. He was also very involved in his children's sports throughout their grade school years. He served on the St Mary Magdalen Athletic Association where he coached both his daughter's and son's CYO and Pop Warner teams for softball, baseball and football. One of his proudest moments was taking on a group of unrelated boys at St Mary Magdalen that were left without a coach, and giving these "Fast Fraters" an opportunity that they otherwise wouldn't have had. Those who knew Vince during the 60's remember well the many late nights spent with his buddies at the St Mary Magdalen Men's Sports Club on Blanco Rd. near Fresno, where many an offspring learned to fine tune their skills at pool and darts. He left us all with some very fond memories. Vincent had a smile for everyone, and was a true friend to those in need. He will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice; his son Roger, and his daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Homer. He is also survived by his beloved brothers Eddie and Joe, and the two great joys of his life, his grandchildren Zachary and Carelia. Our family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Huebner Creek Health & Rehab Center at 8306 Huebner Rd. Their kind and dedicated staff made daddy feel at home during his daily visits over the last year and a half. Huebner Creek will forever hold a special place in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you consider volunteering some time at this wonderful facility by either calling out the bingo numbers or helping at the Craft and Activity Center, making the life of someone less fortunate just a little bit brighter! Private services will be held at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
