John R. Cardenas, 68, of Fort Smith, died February 6, 2011 in Fort Smith. He was a retired employee of St. Edward's Mercy Medical Center. He was born September 15, 1942 in New Braunfels, Texas to Juan Sr. and Antonia Rodriguez Cardenas. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in San Antonio, TX and was Past President of LULAC Council II. He was a musician for several bands in San Antonio TX and served as a Choir Director for St. James Catholic Church and St. Phillip's of Jesus Catholic Church in San Antonio TX. He is survived by his wife Leona Kennedy-Cardenas of Fort Smith; two daughters, Rose Mary Cardenas and Sylvia M. Perez and her husband Louie all of San Antonio, TX; two sons, Chad Kennedy and wife Lanie of Greenwood, AR and Bill Rodriguez and wife Mary Helen Fort Smith, AR; brother, Tony Cardenas and wife Angela of Manassas, VA; bother-in-law, J.R. Dallas and wife Darren of Fort Smith, AR; grandchildren, Jordan Kennedy, Alexandra, Jenny and Eduardo Rodriguez. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel and Mass will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Fort Smith, AR. Burial will be held on Saturday, February 12, 20011 at 11:00 at Comal Cemetery in New Braunfels, TX all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith, AR.
