Josephine Oefinger Coyle

November 17, 1935
April 25, 2011

Josephine Oefinger Coyle was born on November 17, 1935, in the Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were Josephine Youngblood and Ernest Frederick Oefinger. Jo-Jo attended public schools in San Antonio, including Travis Elementary, Mark Twain Junior High and Jefferson High School. She also attended San Antonio College before going to The University of Texas in Austin. There, she pledged Pi Beta Phi, but love won out. She dropped out of college and married Capt. Harry Michael Coyle on March 26, 1955, in the First Baptist Church of San Antonio. Jo-Jo and Harry celebrated their fifty sixth wedding anniversary on March 26, 2011. After twelve years of Army life, the Coyles returned to Texas where Harry obtained his PhD at The University of Texas at Austin and then became a professor of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. By this time, there were four Coyle children, so Jo-Jo was active in supporting their school activities, doing political volunteer work, belonging to The Women's Club and becoming very active in Grace Bible Church. In fact, she and Harry were founding members of that church and were privileged to serve the Lord faithfully there, helping Grace and its people grow through the years. The most meaningful things in her life, besides her own family, were leading Bible Studies for women and mentoring and discipling younger women. She and Harry began the Adopt An Aggie program at Grace, modeled after a similar program they had enjoyed at West Point. For several years, their home and their cabin at Camp Creek Lake were filled with Aggies. Many of those former students remain good friends. When the empty nest years arrived, the Coyles took advantage of good health and traveled all over the world making wonderful memories. Jo-Jo greatly loved: her Savior, her husband, her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and her very special friends. She leaves behind her husband, Harry Michael Coyle, her children, Mary Deborah Coyle Barry and husband, David of Belmont, Ma , Nancy Jenifer Coyle Purvis and husband, Karl of Berryton, Ks., Harry Michael Coyle, Jr. and wife Beth Gibson Coyle of Boerne, Tx. and David Patrick Coyle and wife Jeanne Sunderland Coyle of Bryan,TX. Her beloved grandchildren are Christen Elizabeth Coyle Kennington and husband Jacob, Lauren Michelle Coyle Orgeron and husband Christopher all of Houston, Tx., Kelsey Josephine Purvis and Matthew Karl Purvis of Berryton, Ks., Julia Anne Barry and Andrew Michael Barry of Belmont, Ma. and Katelyn McCreless Coyle, David Patrick Coyle, Jr. and Lexie Jean Coyle of Bryan, Tx. Great grandchildren are Micah Joseph Orgeron and Claire Elise Orgeron of Houston, TX.

Jo-Jo left this life on April 25, 2011 after a beautiful Resurrection Day celebration with family at home. The power and the glory of the resurrection of her Savior became real to Jo-Jo the following day. Alive and well, she joined her precious Lord Jesus and her family and friends who went before her into Heaven. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25 & 26)
