Virginia Arnold

Obituary Condolences

Virginia "Ginger" Ruth Arnold, born December 29, 1924, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 17th. She was afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease for several years. Born in Johnson City, Texas, she was educated through the 12th grade, moved to San Antonio and worked for Southwestern Bell. In 1945 she married Alvin Joseph Arnold, a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II from Victoria, Texas. Virginia was the proud and hardworking mother of two boys, Douglas and Jerry. She was very active in their schooling and supported their schools' PTA and related activities. Virginia was also active in the Altar Society of Blessed Sacrament Church becoming a founding member and organizer. She was also active in the San Antonio Chapter of the RSES Auxiliary. In 1961, she joined her husband in forming Arnold Refrigeration, Inc. and worked full-time as it's office manager for nearly 35 years before retiring. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Viola Herwig, her sister, Joe Williams and husband, Doyle, her husband, Joe Arnold, her son, Jerry and her grandson, Jason Arnold. Virginia is survived by her son, Douglas Arnold and wife, Barbara and grandson, Philip Arnold and wife, Celia Amador Arnold. She is also survived by the extended family of Joe Arnold and the extended family of her sister. Warm, heart-felt thanks go to her long-time caregiver, Shirley Humphrey. Special thanks go to her part-time caregiver, Darlene Clements. Many thanks go to the nurses and staff of Odyssey Hospice Care of San Antonio, especially their Crisis Care nurses. Also, many thanks to Ruth Foster and Home Instead Senior Care for their long serving assistance. Visitation will take place from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19th at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20th at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with Deacon J.D. Jorgensen officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the local Star Chapter of the at 7400 Louis Pasteur, Suite 200, San Antonio, Texas 78229.
