Josephine Aleman passed away on June 13, 2011 following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving nephews and their wives. Josephine was born on June 13, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Guadalupe Aleman; her siblings, Alfonso Aleman (Adelaide), Guadalupe Aleman, Pedro Aleman and Elvira Rivera; and her nephews, Alfonso Jr., Miguel and Leonard Aleman. Known for her food service ability, Josephine showcased her strong work ethic and cooking skills at her jobs at CPS, Burbank High School, Mission Rd. Foundation, Providence High School, and St. Gerard's High School. After the deaths of Alfonso and Adelaide, Aunt Josie, as she was affectionately known, assumed the role of family matriarch. Her Sunday morning breakfasts brought together the growing families of her nephews. Love and laughter was shared by all. Aunt Josie lived a life of service to many members of her family. She tended to their needs unselfishly and always with maternal love. She also served numerous priests and nuns of St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church and School. She was also their Aunt Josie, and was called upon many times to prepare meals for them and for liturgical gatherings. Josephine is survived by the nephews that she helped raise: Alfonso, Jr., deceased (Joanne); Albert (Martha); Lawrence (Beatrice, deceased); Adolph (Minerva); John "Rick" (Christina); James (Nancy) and Michael (Rosie). She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Virginia, Alicia, Sixto Jr., Janie, Pedro Jr., Maria Guadalupe, Imelda, Jerry, Janie, Veronica, and Yolanda, and numerous great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Fahti, for her years of dedication and care. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church and School.
A Rosary and Memorial of her life will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 pm at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church located at 134 E. Lambert St. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 15 at 10:00 am also at St. Philip of Jesus with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery No.2.
