Jon Littrell Obituary

LITTRELL
January 3, 1936
July 18, 2011

On July 18, 2011, God called Jon K. "Bubba" Littrell home. Born on January 3, 1936, Bubba lived an amazing life. Bubba found his calling early in life.a love of country music. He started performing while in high school and became a local legend, blessing us with his music until his retirement in January 2009. He was the first local performer to perform at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo in 1983. Through the years, many a South Texan danced to the music of Bubba Littrell and the Melody Mustangs. He is survived by his best friend and wife of many years, Rosemary Smotherman Littrell, his son, Jon K Littrell, Jr. and wife Sherrell, daughter Stacy Lumpkin, grandsons Dusty Littrell (and wife Janae), Trevor Lumpkin and an amazing great grandson, Cooper Lane Littrell. Brothers Preston N. "Sonny" Littrell (wife Kathy), and William R. "Billy" Littrell (wife Mary Ann) and numerous nieces and nephews. While we are sad that Bubba has left this world, we are thankful that we will meet again. Please join us in a celebration of Bubba's life at a memorial service to be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, 7/22 at the Community Bible Church - Northwest at 8118 Tezel Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to your favorite charity.

Bubba, Joe Webb and Mary Branson have never stopped missing you and your welcoming smile. Never did you not stop in front of our house to chat as you were driving to and from home. We often walk past your home and stop to channel your presence. We were so privileged to have you for a neighbor and friend. The love lives on.

We hired Bubba and his band to play at my wedding reception at the Quarry Golf House back in 1995. I had been a fan of Bubba since I met him in 1979 when he was working for Kirby Vacuums . We always would run into each other at the Stock Show and Rodeo every year and one year in 1983, we got together at the rodeo and visited the great Roy Clark. Years later, I met Roy again, and he remembered visiting with Bubba and me at the rodeo. When I got married, I asked Bubba to play at the reception, which he did and we all had a wonderful time! Have a good rest my dear friend Bubba, you have well earned it. Your friend, Steve

Corpus Christi Wind please whisper to Bubba that he truly was Something Very Special...and there will be many lonely nights that I will look to the heavens and know the stars will never shine as bright as those eyes above that big mustache and bigger smile. Littrell Family, thank you for sharing him and letting him share his music with us.

Dearest Rose, Even in your present sorrow, I am sure you know that throughout eternity, in God's perfect timing, all of us who danced miles at the Daughter, and those who provided the music to which we danced, will join you and Bubba as, together, we waltz across heaven and smile when we see you hold Bubba in your arms as you dance.

July 26, 2011

I was lucky to have grown up listening to Bubba's music and later to have him as my "rep" at the lighting company. He never had a cross word to say, always smiled and made me laugh. I still have my "Silver Bears" calender. I am saddened by his passing and his loved ones are in my prayers with my deepest condolences.

Dearest Rose,

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful Bubba. He was so special to all of us who grew up listening to his music. I am so glad we were able to have him back at the Go Western Gala to honor him for what he brought to the San Antonio country music scene. I am sorry I could not attend the service as I had a late meeting for work. My love and prayers go out to you - he loved you so.

Rose and family, our dear neighbors: Driving in my car this morning and listening to KSYM 90.1, I was shocked and sadden to learn of Bubba's passing as he was being eulogized on the Sunday Hillbilly program. Joe and I are heart broken for you and your beautiful family. What a priviledge to have known Bubba; with never a negative word, always a welcoming smile and kind words, he always had time to honk and stop as he drove past our house....the world was a better place because this sweet gentlman was in it and he will be missed so.

Love to you all. Joe and Mary (Branson) Webb

To Rose and the rest of the Littrell family, I was so sad to hear about Bubba. Mom was also devastated to hear also. I love you all so much, and even though it's been years since I was a part of the family, there has not been a day that I have not had thoughts of all the good times we had, and the introduction to new things that the family introduced me to. Rose, I know he was the love of your life, and I know why.... because he was such a love himself. My heart breaks, and please call me Rose, and tell Sonny and Bill also they are in my thoughts and prayers. My email is [email protected], and my cell is 832-896-2586. I would love to talk to you when you feel up to it. Bubba is up there leading the angels in chorus. All my love, Christy (Thias).
