CAROLINA FUENTES GONZALES died 1 hour short of her 90th birthday, at 11 p.m., September 20, 2011. Now she is celebrating her birthday in heaven with her beloved husband and dancing partner, JULIAN V. GONZALES and with her daughter, OLGA CORTEZ, and her son JULIAN V. GONZALES, JR. who preceded her in death. She was born September 21, 1921 in the middle of the great San Antonio Flood and her mother often told her how she had to carry the newborn Carolina over her head as they escaped from the flooding waters.
She leaves behind to mourn her death, her 10 surviving children, Jose Ramiro and wife Melinda, Elva Mae Moreno and husband, Mario, Ray and wife, Kathy, Amanda Gonzales, Yolanda Gonzales, Rosario Basden and husband Charles, Carolina Casas and husband Jose, Sandra Ortega and Lupe, Roger and wife Sonia, and Anna M. Tagle and husband John: 33 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers, Ramiro Gonzales, Juventino Fuentes, Elisandro Fuentes, Pedro Fuentes, Ysedro Fuentes, Joe Fuentes and one sister, Margarita Belmares, and a large extended family in Runge, Karnes City, and San Antonio. Carolina was a strong woman who almost single-handedly raised 12 children while her husband served first in WW II, followed by the Korean War; then as he worked two, sometimes three jobs to provide for his family. Her strong faith and her family sustained her throughout her life, and surrounded her at the time of her passing. The Family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care in Carolina's final weeks and the many friends and family who prayed for her during her last illness. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Rosary that same evening. Procession will depart from the funeral home Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Services under the direction of
