David Gonzalez Obituary

December 9, 1964 - April 3, 2012

David Joseph "Bucky" Gonzalez, son to Mario Q. Gonzalez and Rudy A. and Yolanda B. Garza, was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 9, 1964, and died in San Antonio, Texas early Tuesday, April 3, 2012. We rejoice in David's life and the many happy memories we all have of him and his wonderful sense of humor and mourn the unexpected loss of our dear Bucky. He preserved through many challenges and obstacles in his too-short life and the recent months found him in a good place in his life. He will be sorely missed by those of us that were fortunate to call him Son, Dad, Brother, Colleague and Friend. David is with the Lord now and his soul is at peace. He will be waiting inside the pearly gates to welcome his family and friends to Heaven with his infectious smile and hearty hug. If he could speak to us now, I think he would pass say this Scripture to us: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29, NIV. David was a proud graduate of Alamo Heights High School, Class of 1983. He was a passionate member of the AHHS Mules Football team and made lifelong friendships from his football days. He graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. For more than 17 years, David dedicated his career to the law firm led by Oliver S. Heard, Jr., serving the greater public good in the collection of delinquent property taxes. His tenacity and hard work earned David the respect of this clients and colleagues. At the time of his death, he was very busy planning the 30 year reunion for the Alamo Heights Class of 1983. David loved to be surrounded by his family and friends around a good meal and a drink. He cherished his family and friends, and above them all was his beloved daughter, Madeline Rose. He was outgoing and so much fun. He never met a stranger. Surviving David are: his beloved daughter, Madeline Rose Garza-Gonzalez; parents, Rudy A. and Yolanda B. Garza; sister Gisele Gonzalez; step-brothers, Patrick Garza and Alexander Garza; step-sisters, Marie Carlota Garza Mandes and Yvonne Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Mario Q. Gonzalez; his brother, Mario Gonzalez and his nephew, Richard Joseph Gonzalez. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 6:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel, www.theangelusfuneralhome.com, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, April 11, at 1:30 P.M. at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery # 2. Upon release from the hospital in 2011, David posted this on his Facebook page: I decided to re-read the bestselling book by Rick Warren entitles "The Purpose Driven Life". I want to share a poem from this book that really stands out that was written by Russell Kelfer describing the fact that we are made for a reason and our life has a profound meaning. You are who you are for a reason. You're part of an intricate plan. You're a precious and prefect unique design, Called God's special woman or man. You look like you look for a reason. Our God made no mistake. He knit you together within the womb, You're just what he wanted to make. The parent's you had were the ones he chose, And no matter how you may feel, They were custom-designed with God's plan in mind, And they bear the Master's seal. No, that trauma you faced was not easy. And God wept that it hurt you so; But it was allowed to shape your heart, So that into his likeness you'd grow. You are who you are for a reason, You've been formed by the Master's rod. You are who you are, beloved, Because there is a God!
