Presnall Cage Obituary

CAGE
Presnall "Grady" Cage died on May 9, 2012, after a courageous 13 year battle against cancer. Grady grew up on his family's south Texas ranch in Falfurrias, the most special place in his life. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forrest School, where he excelled in a variety of sports including lettering in baseball, track and football. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and was a member and officer of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. His love of ranching led him to continue his education by completing the esteemed Texas Christian University Ranch Management Program in 2001. Grady actively managed his family's ranching operation and particularly loved sharing the outdoors with family and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as golfer. His other passion was flying, soloing at 16. He later earned his commercial single and multi-engine instrument fixed-wing and commercial helicopter ratings and accrued over 1,300 hours. When his illness restricted his certification to fly airplanes and helicopters, undaunted, he began flying a powered parachute. Grady was adored by his family and admired for his endless tenacity, courage and character. His relaxed and steady demeanor continued to inspire all those who knew him. He was proud of his involvement with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and the National Beef Cattleman's Association, and was selected to represent TSCRA at the 2006 National Cattlemen's Beef Association Young Cattlemen's Conference. He was a member of The Texas Order of St. Hubertus, Texas Cavaliers, Order of the Alamo, The San Antonio German Club, and San Antonio Country Club. Grady is preceded in death by his grandparents, Julia and Richard Cage and Paula (Didi) and William Rainey. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Cooke Cage and his adoring children, Campbell and Richard; parents, Stephanie and Presnall Cage; sister and brother-in-law, Valerie and Will Ziegler; brother and sister-in-law, William and Emily Cage; nieces, Hallie and Vivienne Ziegler; in-law family: Catherine Nixon Cooke Atherton and Geary Atherton; Joan and Starr Cooke; Kathryn and Peter Atherton, and daughter Caroline; Rayan and Brooke Atherton El-Amine and daughters Leila and Reef; Margaret and Sean Gunn, daughter Ella and son Curtis, along with numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Tolcher and his head nurse, Suzanne Burke for the years of treatment and compassionate care.
