Virginia Freiling Obituary

FREILING

Virginia Mae "Mimi" Harris Freiling was born March 3, 1916 in Coleman County, Texas to William Robert Harris and Nell Baker Harris. They moved to Los Angeles Heights in San Antonio about 1923. Virginia graduated from Edison High School in 1932.
She married Russell Freiling, April 1936. They were married 54 years. They enjoyed watching and supporting their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities and watching them grow up. They loved to hunt, fish, travel, and entertain/host get-togethers for family and friends.
She was a faithful member of the Beacon Hill, Jefferson, West Avenue and the University Oaks Churches of Christ. She taught many that God IS and the importance of obedience to His Word.
Two of her favorite charities were Disability Resources, Inc., from which she was awarded the Paul Slaton Award and Christian Heritage Schools. She had a giving heart to the handicapped and to education.
She was a member of the Delphian Society, the Child Nurture Club, and a "42 Club" that was together for over 50 years. She was always active. Her needlepoint stockings and crocheted afghans are treasured works of art.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister (Roberta Arnold), and brother (Bill Harris). What great times we had together: laughing, eating, playing.
She is survived by two sons, Don (Jeanette) and Wayne (Georgia) and six grandchildren: Russ (Tammy) Freiling, Rynn Freiling, Amy Mae (Todd) Roberts, Reagan (Belinda) Freiling, Faith (Ethan) Coble, and Ginger (Mario) Diaz; and 12 great-grandchildren. She set high standards for us all.
The family is very grateful for the loving friendship and service given to Virginia for the past 4 years by Kay Kennedy. Caregivers Rita Johnson, Ann Lawrence and Ida Aketch were so caring of our "Mimi". Many thanks are extended to The Odyssey Hospice for the wonderful and tender care in her last days.
As she served others when she could, others served her when she couldn't.

Don,

I am so sorry to learn of your mother's death. I know your loss as my mother died recently after 11 years in an Abilene nursing home, having no idea who we were. My thoughts and prayers are for you and your family during this sad time and the difficult days to come.
