IRVIN
Irvin Jr., Barlow, insurance agent and rancher, passed away at age 82 on Friday, October 26, 2012 at McKinney Medical Center. Barlow was in the insurance business where he spent 25 years working for AAA as an agent. He then opened his own insurance agency in the Dallas area. A San Antonio native, Barlow was born on September 28, 1930 to Hazel and Barlow Irvin, Sr. Both parents came from South Texas ranching families with ancestors who resided in Texas when it was a republic. Barlow graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio in 1948. He went to Schreiner College in Kerrville, Tx where he participated in football and track. After graduation from Schreiner College he served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. After serving our country, Barlow went to SMU where he met the love of his life Bobbye Hughes and received a Business Degree in 1955. After graduation, he and Bobbye were married for 57 years where they spent much time enjoying each other while traveling. He was active as an adult at Highland Baptist Church, where he volunteered his time as the track and basketball coach. He also attended Prestonwood Baptist Church and Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. Barlow will always be remembered for his easy going, gentle and kind personality. He had many passions in life, Dallas Cowboys Football and Texas Aggie Football, but none more than the love he had for his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Bobbye Irvin, his parents Barlow Irvin and Hazel Irvin, and his brother John Irvin. He is survived by his children Barlow Irvin III, Barry Irvin and Sherry Ruckman, grandchildren Chris Ruckman, Lee Ruckman, Allie Irvin, Alana Irvin, and Brittany Henderson, great grandchildren Marin Ruckman, Luke Henderson and Cassidy Henderson; and his niece Kathleen Loughlin, nephew Charles Irvin and sister-in-law Kathleen Walo. Funeral services for Barlow will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11am in Restland Memorial Chapel. A reception will be held following the service. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Texas A&M Association of Former Students: Barlow (Bones) and Hazel Irvin Scholarship Fund, 505 George Bush Dr. College Station, TX 77840.
