Dr. Jerome "Jerry" J. Wiesner passed away on November 4, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 95 years. A long-time resident of San Antonio, he was a highly respected physician, rancher, and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jerry was born November 23, 1916, in Rowena, Texas. In his youth, he attended St. Joseph School and Ballinger High School, assisted at his father's dry goods store "Wiesner & Pustka" and worked the local cotton fields. Supporting himself with part-time jobs, Jerry attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he met his future wife, Alice Woods. After three years at the University, he was accepted to and attended the UTMB medical school in Galveston. Alice and Jerry were married June 27, 1943. After graduating near the top of his medical school class and interning in Galveston, Jerry entered military service and was stationed in San Antonio. He completed his residency at Baylor Hospital in Dallas then moved back to San Antonio, where he continued his long medical career. He became a member of many medical organizations including the Catholic Physicians Guild. A very devout Catholic, Jerry was active in religious life, loved attending mass and made sure his five sons had the benefit of a Catholic school education. He was also a long-time member of Oblate Associates. In 1958 he fulfilled his lifelong dream of establishing Wiesner Bar W Ranch and began raising award-winning registered polled Hereford cattle. He turned to ranching full-time after retiring from medicine 1986. He belonged to many cattle organizations, and served as both Director and President of the South Texas Polled Hereford Association. Alice, the true love of Jerry's life, preceded him in death on April 22, 2008. The adoring couple is survived by their five sons, Paul and wife Dana, Mark and wife Paula, James and wife Cindy, Michael, William and wife Susan, thirteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Undoubtedly his legacy will live on, as he is held dearly in the hearts and memories of the countless people who knew and loved him.
