J. C. Pool passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the age of 88. Jay was born in Ft. Worth, TX, in 1924. Upon graduation from Amon Carter H. S. he joined the U. S. Navy, serving in World War II. During the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Jane Ward. Jay graduated from TCU and later returned to attain a Master's Degree in Education.
In his early years he worked for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram. Later he was a counselor for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission serving the mentally handicapped in Ft. Worth. In the early 60's he moved the family to San Antonio becoming a counselor at Trinity University for returning veterans. A year later he became the Dean of Student Life, and eventually became the Vice President of Student Affairs for Trinity, serving in that capacity for a number of years. After leaving Trinity he served as a counselor at U.T.S.A. and then Boerne H. S.
Upon retiring, Jay and Jane spent many happy years RVing, making many good friends along the way. They enjoyed living in the Texas hill country for over 20 years.
Jay was preceded in death by Jane, his beloved wife of 62 years. He is survived by his three sons: Dr. Jack Ward Pool and wife, Diane, Rev. J. Fletcher Pool, and David Scott Pool and wife, Alicia; four grandchildren: Jeff Pool, Ryan Pool, Landon Pool, and Kate Pool; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, there will be a memorial service Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Island United Methodist Church, 2970 DeVilbiss Ln., San Antonio with a brief reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity or church of your choice.
