COLLINS
Shelton L "Rip" Collins passed away on February 1, 2013 in San Antonio Texas. He was born on August 11, 1919 in Troy, Alabama to Martin Lomax Collins and Ruby Livingston Collins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Burniece Purvis Collins , beloved brothers Frank E Collins , J T Collins; and beloved sister Lou Ouida Newkirk. Shelton is survived by his daughter, Shari Tabor; brothers, Maston E Collins (Patsy) and Murray O Collins; and Grandson Christopher M Tabor along with numerous nieces and nephews. He completed high school in 1939 in Winnsboro, Texas and enlisted in the Army Air Corp that same year. He retired in 1969 from the United States Air Force with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He then entered into the Civil Service sector with the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 1989. He and Burniece May Purvis were married on March 8th, 1943 in Odessa, Texas .Together they shared the joy of their daughter and grandson. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and he lived his life with dignity and honor. He will be missed but will forever remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
SERVICES
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Graveside Services and Interment will be on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 10:30am at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Full Air Force Honors.
