Sergeant First Class (SFC) Troy Marcell Walker went the Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas, at the young age of 42. He was born May 13, 1970 to Winette Thelma Hopkins and Lyndall Walker at Fort Meade, Maryland, and raised in Columbia South Carolina. He was baptized at the age of 4 at a Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, and his faith was always expressed in not only his words, but also in his actions. He enlisted on active duty in April 1990, and he was united in Holy Matrimony to Bridget Nadine Oubre' Alexander on October 10, 2009. They have two daughters, Nicole Alexander and Alexia Walker. Troy's assignments include Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Carson, Colorado, Korea, Fort Hood Texas, and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. SFC Walker's deployments include Operation Joint Forge, Bosnia, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraq, and Operation Unified Response, Haiti. His military education include Tank Commanders Leaders, Senior and Advanced Leader, Warrior Leaders Courses. His civilian education includes an Associate's Degree from Central Texas College. SFC Walker's awards include two Bronze Star Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals three Army Commendation Medals, Korean Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,, Humanitarian Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Badge and Order of Saint George Medallion. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His principled, yet compassionate and straightforward approach never left any doubt as to where he stood. Lifting weights, riding his GSR 1300 Hayabusa, playing dominoes, and relaxing with his wife were some of his hobbies. Troy leaves to cherish his memories his wife Bridget Nadine Walker, daughters Nicole Alexander and Alexia R. Walker, his mother Winette Thelma Hopkins, father Lyndall Walker, sister Cozette Walker, aunts Cozette (Milton) Ryan, Pam (Lewis) Taylor and Renee Hopkins of Columbia, South Carolina, and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:15 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Very Reverend Kevin Fausz, Pastor of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, as the Presiding Minister. A gravesite service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Very Reverend Kevin Fausz as the Presiding Minister.
