Arthur Salvador Rodriguez, Jr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 20, 2013. He was born on Sept. 3, 1922 to Arthur S. Rodriguez, Sr. and Ercilia Rivera Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Rodriguez, O.P., and brother, Andrew. He is survived by his wife, Felice, children, sisters, Marie Kotzur & Virginia Rodriguez, and brother, Anthony Rodriguez. He was a proud descendent of Salvador Rodriguez, one of the original settlers from the Canary Islands that came to San Antonio in 1731. Arthur was the loving husband of Felice Quintero Rodriguez and father to 7 children, Arthur (Sonia), Francis (Betty), Raymond (Carmen), Paul, Richard (Delma), Peggy (John) Whittington, and Martin (Sylvia); 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. He was a life-long resident of SE San Antonio. His life was devoted to his family, his church and to his community. Arthur was a 1941 graduate of Central Catholic HS. He began his federal career in aircraft metal surface repair at Kelly Field, San Antonio in 1941. He volunteered in the U.S. Army Air Corps. and was assigned to a unit destined for China. His unit became part of the esteemed Flying Tigers and his job was to repair planes damaged in battle. Following the war he returned to the US and was discharged on Jan. 12, 1946 when he resumed his civilian career at Kelly Field. On the 4th of August, 1948 he married Felice Quintero. They enjoyed many years of traveling with the family. A founding member of St. Margaret Mary's Church, he served on the Pastoral Council, Eucharistic Ministry, and the Hospitality Committee. Arthur was a member of the Men's Club and devoted much of his time to St. Margaret Mary's School. "Mr. Rod" as he was affectionately known to hundreds of boy scouts was active in scouting for 50 years primarily with Troop 177.
He enjoyed many favorite past times during his retirement years. He took great pride in working at the family ranch in Wilson County with his father and brothers raising cattle and harvesting feed for the animals. He also enjoyed gardening and bird watching in his backyard.
Visitation on Monday, Feb. 25 at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Avenue, San Antonio at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur's name to St. Margaret Mary's Capital Campaign.
