PODOJIL
Lawrence R. Podojil, born Aug 7, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. He died April 3, 2013 from complications of cancer. He received a Master's Degree in Education from Central Connecticut State College in 1978. He retired at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) Aug 1, 1969 at US Coast Guard Station, USCG Training Center at Governor's Island, New York, where he was the Master Chief of the Electronic Technician Training School. During his service in the Coast Guard he had many sea tours including back to back tours to Antarctica and the North Pole. He served in the United States Coast Guard for 23 years, during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Conflict. Mr. Podojil taught at the Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, Connecticut from Sept 1969 until June 1989 when he retired as the Chairman of the Industrial Arts Department. He also served as the House Master of the Industrial Arts Building. His hobbies included gardening, raising Christmas trees, raising cows and pigs and cutting down trees to split for fire wood.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Stella Podojil and brothers, Paul and Frank. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn and brother James; 5 children, Lawrence Jr. and wife Connie; Ronald and wife Sharon; Nancy Schleser and husband James; Paul and wife Ginger and Michael and wife Rhonda; 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by all.
