Guadalupe Leonor Martinez Garcia was born January 4, 1936 and entered her rest on Sunday, April 21, 2013 after a bout with a pneumonia and a three year battle with mantle-cell lymphoma. A native of Laredo, Texas, Leonor graduated from Martin High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Texas A & I in Kingsville, Texas.
A lifelong learner herself, Leonor's passion for education began in childhood and continued through 40 years of teaching. For the majority of her career, she taught Mathematics and later Computer Science at McCollum High School in San Antonio, Texas. In retirement, she continued teaching Mathematics at Palo Alto College. She took great pleasure in patiently helping her students; sharing the joys of teaching with her peers; and collaborating with school administrators. Leonor was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, 1314 Fair Avenue, San Antonio, Texas, which is now in dire need of financial help due to foundation problems. She is survived by her son, Raul Roberto "Bob" Garcia and wife Pamela of The Colony, Texas; daughter, Laura Garcia Brill of Pipe Creek, Texas; brother, Pedro Martinez of Washington, DC; her dearest companion, Martin Sojourner of San Antonio, Texas; and many members of extended family, former students and co-workers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Pedro Martinez and Mrs. Angelina Pia Casillas Martinez.
