GARTMAN
John C. Gartman age 94 went to be with his Lord April 19, 2013. He was born in Gatesville, TX on February 3, 1919. Raised on a farm in Bell County, TX which was part of the land acquisitions that helped opened Camp Hood now known as Ft. Hood. John graduated from Gatesville High School 1936 and served in the Army Signal Corps during WWII. He moved with his wife Mary to San Antonio in the early 1950's. He started the "Organ Service Company" which he operated for over 50 years, keeping most all of the church organs in San Antonio and much of central and south Texas in top condition. John enjoyed hunting and fishing especially the times he was with his friends and family. In addition he was an active member and Deacon at University Park Baptist Church, becoming a member of Trinity Baptist in later years. After finally retiring from his organ repair business his favorite pass times were golf, square dancing and traveling the country in his R.V. with his wife and other friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 72 years Mary D. Gartman; daughters, Becky Goodwin and husband Jim, Lynn Smith and husband Scott, Jill Lewis and husband Gene; 7 grandchildren, Andrea Chidester, Lisa DeHart, Dennis Sanders, Shevaun Lewis, Meghan Lewis, Jared Lewis, Keith Lewis; and 5 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
